What would you do?

The other day I was driving and stopped at a red light. I was half paying attention to the car in front of me, when I realized the guy in it was letting something fall out of his hand on to the road. An empty pack of cigarettes. All so casual like, just "falling" out of his hand as it hung out the driver's side window.

And I sat there and said out loud "no. you. didn't!"

And then I sat there some more and debated whether or not I should get out of the car and pick it up and give it back to him. "I think you dropped this."

Then the light turned green and he drove off, and the opportunity was gone.

I'm still thinking about it, and wondering why I didn't have the guts to do it.

Would it have been stupid of me? Risky? Or just really ballsy?

What would YOU have done?

  1. I woulda got his tag number and called a litter bug...i dunno if that is the actual number BUT I know there is a number to report literers-litering is one of my pet peaves-
I would NOt have confronted anyone in this day an age-to many crazies out there-plus ima chicken BUT i may have given him the international 'displeasure' sign yanno the bird ;-)

  2. I probably would have done the same thing you did. The 'oh no you didn't'. The hesitation. The regret. The blogging about it later.

Actually had a convo with a friend who blogged about the same thing, and we wondered how risky it would be to confront somebody doing that.

But still. I am shocked that people still do this.

  3. I wouldn't have confronted him, this day and age and all (as sad as that is).

I probably would have taken the moment as a teachable one and lectured my kids about the improper behavior of the gentleman.

  4. That's a little risky if your not packing something a little stronger than old faithful...just sayin.
I woulda called him in to the litter patrol also. We have a # in this state and I'm sure there is one in yours.
