This post may be deleted shortly

So my mother emailed the other day and asked if she and my dad could read my blog.

I threw up just a little bit.

And have yet to answer.

Crap! What the hell? First I'm "twooced*" at work, now my parents want access?

In all seriousness though I'm not really sure how to handle this. Of course they will be hurt if I say no. And my mother will be sure I'm writing all kinds of nasty things about her.

Rich thinks I should say yes and just tell her if she reads something on here that she doesn't like she has to talk to me about it, not get mad and stew about it. He also thinks maybe it will be good for her to read what is really going on in our life, especially with Noah.

I'm worried though that I'll feel I need to censor myself. I'm already doing it somewhat because of work. Although, as I think about it, I guess it's not holding me back too much.

I guess it goes back to the post I wrote a while back about what direction I want to take this blog.

What do you guys think?

* twooced = my version of being "dooced" because of twitter

  1. My mom asked me and I told her no. That I wanted a place where I would have the freedom to say whatever I want. She once told me she has refrained from doing a search for it because she respects my privacy.

  2. Blessedly my parents are not entirely sure what a blog is & I don't think it has occurred to them that mine is something they could or would want to read. I don't think it would occur to them to ask before reading it. I'd have a hard time telling them no, even though I'd want to. What they might read would probably spark conversations I don't really want to have, but I know there is always a chance they will stumble on it by accident. So I'd probably say yes & warn them they may not like some of what they read.

  3. Tough call. Is your blog more of a personal diary to you? Or do you feel like your blog is your public offering to the world?

My family reads my blog. I do feel at times that I might have to censor a little. But, I try to remember that I didn;t create this blog as a bitch-fest about everything that annoys me. I try to stick to my format, and noone gets hurt. lol

I need a secret, anonymous blog for all that bithcing.

Hey, let's open a blog together called "BitchFest".

  4. My in-laws read my blog. My in-laws who don't LIKE me. It's terribly fun.

But they read it on the sly, never commenting or anything. They found me through a link on Daver's blog. I could kill him.

  5. I think that all depends on what you want your blog to be for you. No one (except one sneaky IRL friend) knows about my blog or has found it. I need it to be that way. However, if it is an easier way to share your life then go for it.

I just like the abilyt to say what I need to say without worrying about others' feelings.

  6. I have a separate, private blog that I get all of my extremely uncensored stuff out in. Maybe setting up something like that will helpyou make the decision.

    Hi from ICLW

  7. oooh tricky - I set my (first) blog up with the intention of open access to all and sundry, but I do have to be careful, and now I have a second, anonymous blog (as Tash) where I feel more free to say what I want, although so far I haven't said anything too outlandish!!

  9. At least she asked! My mom is an occasional reader of mine, it doesn't really bother me. I have often fantasized about a totally anon blog to let it all hang out, but haven't taken that leap yet!

  10. Hi from ICLW,

I wish I had some sage advice for you. Maybe start a separate "family only" blog.

  11. Yeesh. Mine is completely anonymous, and I can't imagine it any differently. Thinking of my mother reading my blog makes me want to run into traffic. But that's because of the kind of person she is.

Good luck with this one. :)
