If I say it enough will I accept it?

My son is autistic.

  1. Well, if you accept it, you can learn more about it, right? I'll keep you guys in my thoughts.

  3. I have two kids on the spectrum, and just found you through NaComLeavMo. I did a big autism post a few days ago. If PA has Asperger's then he is not technically "austistic;" there are five Pervasive Developmental Delays (PDDs). They are AS, Autism, PDD-NOS (PDD "Not Otherwise Specified"), Rhett's Disease, and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. While some use "autistic" to cover all five conditions and describe anyone anywhere on the spectrum, I have a kid who has PDD-NOS-likely-AS and a kid who is autistic, and there is a BIG difference. I'm not trying to minimize, just saying that I personally wouldn't use the word "autistic" in this case. Any which way you look at it though, it's a shitty realization to come to, and I'm sorry.
